Carbon dioxide emissions are currently a major contributor to climate change. Industrial emissions from industry and electricity generation make up more than 40% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions. When algae grows, two tonnes of carbon dioxide are required to make one tonne of algae. The carbon in carbon dioxide is incorporated directly into the carbohydrates, lipids and proteins that make up the algae.
‘Pond’s system uses the direct, untreated exhaust from industrial processes to grow algae. After the exhaust gas flows through our equipment, the carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide are removed. If Pond grew enough algae using the stack gas from industrial plants, we could reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 40%, without impacting industrial output.
