Pond Technologies has designed and built a system that uses enclosed photobioreactors to rapidly grow algae using both artificial LED lights and sunlight. Pond has spent about $15 million dollars to date in the development of our technology, including custom-designing and developing our own illumination system, continuous harvest and control system, and gas management system. Using these systems, we have achieved algae harvest rates over twenty times greater than those achieved in open ponds.
This system can grow algae species including Chlorella, Haematococcus and Spirulina to produce superfoods in a clean, sterile, controlled environment. These algae based foods are packed with healthy vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Spirulina has been referred to the most nutrient-dense food on the planet. Haemotococcus algae produces astaxanthin, which is the most powerful antioxidant known. Chlorella power is more nutrient dense than broccoli, kale or spinach, promotes weight loss, makes you look younger, supports your immune system, and helps your body fight cancer. Pond’s technology can produce these superfoods faster, cleaner, and cheaper than any other algae system.
Pond’s technology is also cost effective air pollution scrubber and carbon sequestration technology, qualifying for CO2 credits and producing oxygen in the process. Pond has proven the technology, growing algae using the raw, untreated stack gas from a cement plant, an integrated steel mill, and a natural gas cogeneration plant. Furthermore, the algal biomass is produced in quantity, and provides many possible downstream options for revenue generation – biofuels, biolubricants, bioplastics, coal replacements, and high value chemicals.
