Pond Biofuels has developed a series of important partnerships with industry and government, including relationships with St. Marys Cement, U.S. Steel Canada Limited, The Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation (formerly Ministry of Research and Innovation), The Canadian Gas Association, Union Gas, The Federal Economic Development Agency of Southern Ontario, the Asia Pacific Partnership, the Ontario Centres of Excellence, and the National Research Council’s IRAP program.
St Marys Cement Inc. is a leading manufacturer of cement and related construction products in the United States and Canada. St Marys Cement is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Votorantim Cimentos, an international cement manufacturer based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. With 25 cement plants in several countries, Votorantim Cementos is the worlds’ 8th largest cement manufacturer and is wholly-owned subsidiary of the Votorantim Group which in addition to cement, is a recognized leader in the metals, energy, steel and pulp and paper industries.
U.S. Steel Canada, employs over 2,200 people at two integrated steel making operations located in Hamilton and Nanticoke, Ontario. U. S. Steel Canada is a wholly owned subsidiary of United States Steel Corporation, one of the world’s largest steel producers, employing more than 40,000 people around the globe and capable of producing more than 30 million tons of steel each year. Pond Biofuels Inc. launched of its second algae carbon conversion and recycling project, in partnership with U.S. Steel Canada, in Q3 2012. The plant, which is located at U.S. Steel Canada’s Lake Erie Works facility in Nanticoke, Ontario, is supported by Union Gas through the Energy Technology & Innovation Canada research organization of the Canadian Gas Association.
The Innovation Demonstration Fund (IDF) is a discretionary, non-entitlement funding program administered by the Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation. The program focuses on emerging technologies, with a preference towards environmental, alternative energy, bio-products, hydrogen and other globally significant technologies. The purpose of the IDF is to support Pilot Demonstrations that will lead to the commercialization of processes and/or products in Ontario that are globally competitive, innovative Green technologies. Pond Biofuels received support from the IDF for its facility located at St. Marys Ontario.
With a five-year mandate, the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) was launched in August 2009 to help respond to Ontario’s economic challenges. Through its funding initiatives, FedDev Ontario is driving economic and community development, innovation, and economic diversification, while contributing to the success of communities, businesses, educational institutions and not-for-profit organizations. All of these activities contribute to FedDev Ontario’s vision: a prosperous and globally competitive Ontario. The Investing in Business Innovation program boosts private sector investment in start-up businesses to accelerate the development of new products, processes and practices and bring them to market. Pond Biofuels received support from Fed Dev to continue its drive toward commercial deployment of its technology.

The Partnership is focused on expanding investment and trade in cleaner energy technologies, and goods and services in key market sectors. The seven partner countries collectively account for more than half of the world’s economy, population and energy use, and they produce about 65 percent of the world’s coal, 62 percent of the world’s cement, 52 percent of world’s aluminum, and more than 60 percent of the world’s steel.

The National Research Council-Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) is Canada’s premier innovation assistance program for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The IRAP program helps firms to develop technologies and successfully commercialize them in a global marketplace, by providing technical and business advisory services, and financial assistance, to the enterprises they serve.
Canadian Buffalo, a Division of Daltec Canadian Buffalo Manufacturing Limited (DCBM), is a privately held Heavy Duty Industrial Fan Manufacturer located in Guelph, Ontario Canada. Pond Biofuels uses fans provided by Canadian Buffalo to move smokestack emissions into our bioreactors.
